  1. 1. : Daniel, Daniela, and Erin : The epiphany that is revealed at the end of “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson is that Tessie Hutchinson, who has been criticizing the Lottery from the beginning of the story, is chosen to be a human sacrifice to the gods. At the beginning of the story, a bunch of children began collecting smooth rocks and putting them in a big pile. I personally thought back to Antigone, were one of the punishments for disobeying the king was getting stoned to death. Once they began the Lottery Tessie’s husband Bill Hutchinson went up to get his card and was rushed. When he opened it and found the black dot, Tessie went crazy and said that it was not fair. Normally if you win, you would be happy. But Tessie is not. This also goes towards to the realization that the winner doesn’t get a prize. Once Tessie wins the family drawing, she starts crying and screaming that it’s not fair. This is the point when we realize there is no reward, but a sacrifice.
